Medication May Help Stem Spread Of Virus

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - A panel from the Food and Drug Administration has endorsed the use of a pill that may help prevent the spread of HIV.

The announcement brought cautious excitement at Kansas City's free health clinic, which treats many people in the city who have the virus.

"This is really just the beginning of a whole new way of thinking about the HIV disease," said Dr. Craig Dietz.

The announcement may be especially welcome news among couples where one person is infected and the other isn't.
